Our featured Honors student this week is Michael Reinhold, an Aerospace Engineer from Cincinnati, Ohio. Michael is technically in his fourth semester of class here at Purdue. However, I hesitate to define his “year” because he is a co-op student.
Looking forward, Michael shared some of his future ambitions with me.
In the future, I would love to work on groundbreaking projects related to space exploration. I find the concept of exploring outer space fascinating, and would love to be on a team that was able to make that possible. That's been a dream of mine since I was a child, and I can't see myself doing anything else with my future.
In fact, Michael’s passion for space exploration and interest in Aerospace Engineering played a key role in his decision to attend Purdue in the first place. Of course, he felt that Purdue provided great educational opportunities, but he was also very intrigued by the prestige Purdue has within the Aerospace community. Michael shared that it is this reputation that allows students to make many significant connections in the Aerospace industry, and this is certainly an opportunity he wished to utilize in college. Ultimately, it was the reason Michael chose Purdue.
When asked about his involvement on campus, Michael began by sharing his passion for outreach. He said,
I enjoy outreach type activities, so I have worked at several events talking to high-school students about my experiences at Purdue. I like working these events because a few years ago I had been in their shoes, with no idea of what I wanted to do in life. I enjoy answering the many questions the students have and trying to convince them to consider attending Purdue.
As I mentioned before, Michael is also a co-op student for an aerospace engineering consulting firm located in San Diego, CA.
During his time on campus, Michael has also enjoyed the benefits of being an Honors student. He shared,
The Honors College is beneficial to me because it allows me to work with people that have completely different mindsets than I do. My classes are filled with engineers, so it is nice to have an HONR class with people that have different perspectives on different topics. The Honors College has also created a tightly knit community that has allowed me to make friends across disciplines. After living in Shreve, met a lot of different people, and still continue to keep in contact with many of them.
It is great to hear that Michael is so clearly enjoying the interdisciplinary education and environment the Honors College strives to provide. As for the community, I know we are certainly thrilled to have you as a part of it. Keep up the great work Michael!
